Anyaral Toolbox
A collection of tools for playing Anyaral World of Twilight
Today 8 of us met up at the Board in Brum gaming centre in the West Midlands for a community meet up and some games of Twilight, hosted by Simon and with Michael Thorp in attendance. We had 5 boards, 1 for general play and 4 with scenarios which Michael brought with him. There was the river scenario, capture the eggs, the imperial horticultural society and a new mission which involved recovering items from under the nose of a fearsome grimblar - a giant ferocious beast of the forest! The emphasis of the day was firmly on having fun, there were no time limits on anything, just pick a board and a mission and play, then find another board and opponent when you were done, or find a game in progress and watch. Michael said it would be useful if we could have a go at playing the grimblar mission and write down our results as it would help with his play testing, and that there would be a prize for anyone who killed the grimblar - though we were warned it was unlikely to happen! My first game was against Ben, who was fantastic to play, I have the sum total of about three actual games of Twilight under my belt so he was very patient helping me to get to grips with the rules, we played the grimblar mission, which ended up a a huge win for Ben as his knights killed the beast by literally choking it to death! The last knight killing it in his death throes! After pizza lunch Ben and I then went on to play a free play mission where I got to practice with my devanu and get to grips a bit more with how the game special rules work together. It was a close game with the devanu coming out on top having eventually killed the last of the knights, though only after the clan matriarch had been slain! For my final game I played Dewi and Michael in the Imperial Horticulture Society mission, which has long been one of my favourites, but I have never actually played before. We had an excellent time and the game ended remarkably closely with a small crowd of spectators! After completing the games Mike talked to us for a bit about his future plans for the game and showed off some superb looking Work In Progress models which I’m not going to discuss here! But the world of Twilight looks to have a very bright future! In the Prize giving Gary Weeks won a well deserved best painted army award as voted for by the event players for his superb empire force and Ash took a commended entry for his army which Mike chose. Dewi won the award for the most decisive kill on the grimblar! It was a great day of casual gaming, and a real opportunity to spread the word of Twilight, and Michael kept having to break off and chat to customers about the game and his fantastic models! We are in the process of planning the second Board in Brum Twilight event, and it would be great to see even more people down next time!Thank you to everyone who came and made the event a success, and hope to see you all again in the near future.
